Here’s my sewing pattern I used to upcycle a fluffy blanket into a cozy maxi skirt with super easy external side pockets.

After I made fluffy baggy pants from this blanket from Kmart, I thought I’d sew a cozy long skirt from the left over fabric. This fabric didn’t like to be sewn much, so I decided to go for a simple long skirt with deep external pockets down the sides with minimal sewing.
The pattern consisted of two 70cm x 90cm rectangles for the front and back, and two 20cm x 130cm rectangles for the sides including the pockets.

The long thin panels were folded in a zig zag 20cm from the top to make quick easy external pockets that are 20cm deep. These pockets will become about 18cm wide when the long edges are sewn together to make the skirt.

The four panels were serged together into a tube, and the top was folded over 4cm then cover-stitched, leaving a gap to insert elastic. Finally, the hem was folded over 2cm and cover-stitched.

The completed skirt was 84cm long, which was just ever so slightly too long when walking for me, so I took the hem up another 2cm.
This fabric was so hard to work with, but the fluffy skirt is super comfy and cozy!
