I wanted to try making a top or a dress with gathered yoke. After a few hours of internet surfing, I decided to sew a v-neck midi dress with long puff sleeves and gathered yoke.
Pattern & Process

For the steps, I referenced how to make a gathered blouse on Yan Sewing. You can read my step-by-step post here:
- The skirt panels were gathered and attached to the yokes;
- The shoulders were sewn together;
- Collar facings were sewn on;
- Sleeves were attached next to the shoulders;
- The front and back was sewn together down the sides;
- Cuffs were made, sewn on, and elasticated;
- The hem was cover stitched;

No pockets this time; I wasn’t sure if I’d keep this or cut it apart and repurpose it again after a few wears 😀
I decided to repurpose my first ever top I sewed four months ago, based on Yan’s smock dress, and cut it up to make the yokes and sleeves.

Outcome

I’m pretty happy with the outcome 🙂 The light colour makes it look a little like a nightie without a waist mark; maybe I’ll add some trims, or decide to cut it up and refashion it again in a few months time. I might shorten the hem by 15cm so it becomes a midi dress, or experiment with remaking this dress in a darker colour. But for today, I’m wearing it out for dinner 😀
