Three months into sewing and five pants later, I’ve finally perfected my comfy lounge pants pattern 😀
These pair of baggy pants have elastic cuffs and waistband, with a rise that allows me to stretch in them; it feels like I’m wearing nothing at all. 🤭
Baggy pants pattern
Here’s the pattern you can directly draw onto your fabric with a ruler and fabric pen.

Below is a free printable pattern over 18 pages of A4.

Making baggy pants
Using a ruler and a water-soluble pen (from Daiso), the pattern was drawn on to the fabric; freehand for curves.
These pair were made from dust coloured viscose slab washer fabric from Spotlight. Coming in 1.35m width, almost all of 2m was used to make these pair of pants. See my babylock settings.
Pockets
Pockets big enough to fit my smart phone were prepared and sewn on as posted in how to sew front pockets on pants:
Pants
To sew the pants together:
- the legs were sewn into pipes;
- one leg was turned out and inserted inside the other leg;
- the crotch was sewn together; then
- it was flipped back out to resemble a pair of pants.

See my post on how to make culottes for step-by-step pants making with photos:
Cuffs & Waistband
To finish it off, the waistband and cuffs were serged onto the pants. (See how to sew elastic casings for step-by-step turial.)

For both the waistband and the cuffs, I made elastic casing to fit two 6mm-wide elastic to give it more of a shirring effect.

The doggie test
Does Mr Fluffypants like our new pants?

Yeppo; this little dogge couldn’t resist resting on these pair of pants 🥰 Even when it moved onto the tiles, or on me.

I’ll be adding this to my personal pattern notebook and my serger setting notes:
Babylock overlocker settings for serging common & specialty fabrics
I wanted to put together a growing list of overlock and cover stitch settings that have been working great for the fabrics I’ve been serging with my new Babylock machine. I mainly put this together for myself for future reference, but I thought, why not share it? Maybe it’ll come in handy for someone else…
