After discovering the tastiness of bamboo shoots, I sought a restaurant that serves many dishes with them. I found this restaurant that specialises in bamboo shoot cooking in Kyoto and booked in advance before our Japan trip to secure a spot.
We arrived and awed at the beauty of the venue and its surrounds. The restaurant looked like traditional villas on water, lined with flowers. And because it’s located next to a shrine and pond lined with vibrant flowers, the walk up to the restaurant was delightful.

The 11 course ”Takenoko Kaiseki” menu went like this:

The course was amazing, but my favourite was the big charred bamboo shoot. Mmm, so nutty and aromatic.
Kinsuitei is located next to Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto, and is a 10min walk from Nagaoka-Tenjin station.
The bamboo feast is only available during Spring (late March to May) and needs to be booked. As a bamboo shoot lover, Kinsuitei’s Bamboo Banquet was “🥇=worth planning around it” on my #revisitlist. Plan ahead and enjoy the rest of Kyoto while you’re there. Don’t miss the monthly Kobo-ichi market (more about that later!).
