Inspired by jelly cakes (the edible type), I made this orange jelly cake soap using melt and pour bases and handmade fruit embeds. Here’s how I put together a 150g bar in a triangular quiche mold.
Making fruit pieces
To make the orange slice, I followed CChannel’s video below using the following:
- 3 cookie cutter rings (smaller three in the set from Kmart)
- 120g clear soap base with
- 2 drops of yellow & 1drop of red dye (could be a little more yellow next time)
- 6 drops of sweet orange essential oil (could be a tag stronger next time);
- 45g white soap base;
I also made a few green and yellow fruit balls using small round molds. If you have strawberry or raspberry‑shaped molds, they’d look adorable here as well.
Layering the Jelly cake

Cookie base layer: 40g of clear soap base was melted and mixed with a little sand‑coloured mica to give it a cookie‑like look. Once it cooled down to about 55°C, it was poured into the triangular mold and left to set.
White layer: 35g of white soap base was melted and cooled to around 50°C. This was poured over the cookie layer to create a soft opaque middle for the fruit pieces to sit on.
Jelly embed layer: When the white layer had set, the orange slice and fruit balls were arranged on top. Then 75g of clear soap base was melted, fragrance was added, and the mixture was allowed to cool to roughly 50°C before being poured gently over the embeds to form the jelly‑like top layer.
A light spray of isopropyl alcohol was used between each layer so everything would bond together cleanly.

Once the soap was unmolded, the layers and fruit pieces came together in such a cute way. The orange slice looked bright and juicy, and the little fruit balls added a fun pop of colour. The triangular shape really helped it resemble a tiny jelly cake. It was a simple project, but the final bar turned out so sweet that I’m already thinking about trying different “flavours” next time.
