Round Neck Jumper Pattern & Sewing Log (Free PDF)

This is a quick post to note down the pattern I used to make this round neck jumper.

Pattern

Based on some of my existing pullovers and hoodies, I sketched out the blueprint for this jumper. It’ll be about a size 8/S.

Fabric & BabyLock settings

I used an Australian milled ribbed cotton (Aphrodite blue from Melco Fabrics), and Rasant thread (colour code #0355).

Differential feed was set to 1.3 when serging; see my Baby Lock overlocker settings for this fabric in:

Ribbing

This helpful video helped me sew neck ribbing that sits well along the neckline.

This was the first time I sewed ribbing around the neckline and cuffs.

Making the neckline ribbing 80% of the fabric circumference made it pretty tight to pull and serge on, but it turned out really well – it rests flat along the body instead of lifting away from the body.

This is another handy video that compares neck rib sewing methods to prevent it from standing up and away from the body:

As for the cuffs, 18cm-cut circumference (incl. seams) were perfect for my wrists. (I refashioned my wrap cardigan prototype this time, so I only had 38cm length for the sleeves and it could have been a tad longer, but I’ve adjusted the pattern file.)

Adding a chain stitch did make the ribbed hem a little wonky, so I might want to play with the tension next time. It’ll probably be less visible if the hem ribbing pulled the hem inwards more, but I wanted a loose hem this time.

For a first try, this pullover jumper turned out really well!
