How to make cute 3D earrings with “puraban” shrink art plastic

Can you tell these earrings started off as a sheet of flat plastic?

Shrink art (a.k.a. shrinky dinks, or “puraban” in Japanese) isn’t only for making flat creations; three-dimensional shapes can be made too!

Steps for making 3D shrink art charms

To make a three-dimensional charm with shrink art plastic:

1 – Draw a two-dimensional plan of the charm on to the plastic, and colour it in with markers or coloured pencils.

2 – Cut it out with a pair of scissors; punch a hole where you want to attach jump loops.

3 – Heat it in the oven or sandwich press for about 30~60 seconds until it stops shriveling and shrinking.

4 – While it’s still hot and malleable, bend and shape the shrunk plastic. (Wear a pair of winter gloves to protect your hands!)

5 – Assemble the charms into earrings.
